I have recently updated the comment section for my LCARS theme as there seams to be an unknown error in the Zip, and i wanted to let people know that i was aware of it, so that i didn't keep receiving the same email.

It uploaded but it says it's waiting for approval, journeyman's skins don't get moderated so there must be an error? I've had no problem in the past so i updated another theme to set to see if it was just related to this theme which it's not.

Could someone have a look at this for me, I've email T-man but i think he is busy.

Thanks

Adam

hiya Adam !!

it's probably a glitch

Jafo is probably sleeping, but I saw KarmaGirl a little bit ago posting so she might pick this up pretty quick

Not a glitch. Every skin has to pass moderation after update. Even the higher levels. I find that a bit strange, but that's the rule. Some people pushed their skins at the top of the list again by doing a 'fake' update, that's the reason I think.

ALL updates now go through moderation... regardless of status. This is to stop updating abuse. I will take a look......
on Dec 16, 2003
BoXXi, if the admins are worried about updating abuse, don't you think that you (the adminst) are promoting the wrong people?

Styl: I am about to e-mail you........

Adam: I have approved that update for the L-Cars theme, but have sent you an e-mail regarding the other one...

Ron: E-mail sent.....

At the risk of sounding like a broken record................. matters such as this are better handled via email to one or more of the Mods.

I agree Randy... and E-mailing T-Man is unnecessary as he deals with site issues and coding. The moderators deal with upload issues.

Unfortunately, becoming a popular, respected, or well-known skinner does not preclude 'some' from having minor character flaws that will see them updating 'frequently' purely to boost download figures and ultimately their own 'popularity'.

Call it a flaw of 'ego', or perhaps an over-developed 'ego' gland....

This update-via-moderation applies to all, from Citizen to Admin....there are no 'favourites'.....and all in all it's intention is to ensure that Statistics such as downloads, popularity, etc is fair and equitable to all...

Adam....I think you'll findthat the moderation 'detour' only kicks in when the updates are fairly close together.

I assume your text changes occurred within about 10 days of the most recent upload.  This system has been in place for six months or more...

As for the Info updating....I'll have to get T-Man to give me access to those Info sections and take some of the load off him...and update it.  It isn't 'playing around with the rule book', it's the 'rule book is out of date'.....there's a difference....

#10 "My understanding of Update abuse is when you frequently update work and select update date to try and keep skins at the top end of the library. Surly editing text without using the date option is not in violation to this rule"

I think it is not fair if the system "not allowing" the authors to correct a typo in the description, for example, by make them waiting 5 days...
Selecting the "Update date" it must be something different from the option not to check the update date, don't you think?

If an author doesn't select the "update date" how can it be an abuse?

Nikos...it's more work for the admins/moderators to have to re-accept these updates, but, it doesn't take 5 days....generally revised works for whatever reason are back public quite quickly.

Giving the moderators the option/capacity to actually be aware of the normally non-moderated works' frequency of updating/revision means that those who may assume they have found a way to 'cook the books' actually will not profit from it.

It's really disheartening to be aware of such happenings....and possibly one of the reasons I personally now do very little in the way of skinning....when I see who and what is going on....it just rankles a little.

The current system is in place to make the site fair for all.

No-one is better than any other....skinning may have 'elders', 'giants' and 'legends', but the real truth is anyone and everyone who skins is a skinner and ultimately deserves our equitable consideration.

One of the hardest things to do is to be in a position of influence and/or authority over others and NOT abuse the privilege/power by/with prejudiced action.

The heirarchical advancement from visitor/Citizen to Journeyman/Master [and beyond] is in place to assist with the handling/running of the site such as moderation-free uploading, but not everyone may be found entirely suited to respecting their 'freedom' and have been known to abuse the privilege, so effectively all have lost it.

It's not really a big thing to have a short delay in place for updates....particularly when seen from the other side of the fence....those whose works ALL must endure 'moderation', whether new, old, or whatever...

If there was a way to update just the description I would be happy. Half of my "icon" sets go through moderation 4 to 5 times because of typos in the desriptions.

And Jafo I wish all the moderaters thought as you do. However my uploads ALWAYS take 4 to 5 days. I suspect a personal grudge but I know I am wrong.

Kona...previously uploaded works require less 'reviewing' as they were accepted once and therefore normally will be again [unless something odd happens].

When they are seen as re-ups they are usually the first to be processed [they are for me, anyway...makes the queue smaller quicker]...
